Hydrangea Everlasting® Opal

$11.50

Plant Description

Available in 3.5-inch pots, plants are typically 5 to 7-inches tall

'Opal' is a gorgeous woody plant that is both carefree and stunning. It is a floriferous shrub that flowers early summer; faithfully blanketing itself in a carpet of pink or blue blooms, depending on the acidity of your garden soil. As the flowers mature, they change to the Classic look of celadon green with red picotee markings, remaining attractive all season long.

This cultivar is vigorous with exceptional disease resistance and compact habit. It is an upright and neatly compact bush when mature. The plant is deciduous and sheds its foliage in the fall, resting over the winter, and eventually bursting into bloom the following spring to bear scores of large flower heads that measure a whopping 8 to 10 inches in diameter! The flowers are luminous pink when growing in neutral garden soil. In regions with acidic soil, ‘Opal’ will produce light blue to violet colored blooms. The young developing flowers often have attractive soft green markings. The glossy foliage is dark green making it an ideal backdrop for the flowers. It blooms on woody stems – shoots that are older than two years.

It is an outstanding performer in planters, mixed containers, perennial borders, and cut flower gardens. Hydrangeas require cool temperatures in the winter for initiating flower bud development for the following garden year.

The best planting time for Everlasting® Hydrangea is early to late spring and early to mid autumn.
